Emaar Takes Full Control of Damascus’ $500 Million Eighth Gate Project

Dubai-based Emaar Properties has announced that it will exit the joint venture (JV) structure for its landmark The Eighth Gate project in Damascus, Syria. The move will allow the developer to independently oversee the planning, development, and delivery of the approximately $500 million mixed-use project. This strategic decision highlights Emaar’s confidence in Syria’s long-term economic recovery and its commitment to creating world-class urban developments in the region.

Originally unveiled in 2005, The Eighth Gate was envisioned as Syria’s first large-scale master-planned community. Located in Yafour, on the outskirts of Damascus, the development spans around 300,000 square metres and is designed to combine residential apartments, luxury villas, retail outlets, office spaces, hotels, restaurants, and leisure facilities within a single integrated destination. The project aims to provide a modern lifestyle while respecting the rich cultural heritage and architectural identity of the Syrian capital.

By taking full ownership of the project, Emaar will have greater flexibility in decision-making, project execution, and quality control. The company plans to apply the same international standards that have made its developments in Dubai and other global markets highly successful.
